Women and girls continue to face appalling levels of violence and abuse. Globally, 1 in 3 women report experiencing significant physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime, and over 50,000 women are killed each year, by intimate partners or family members. Rooted in gender inequality, the impact of abuse leads to lifelong physical, emotional, and psychological trauma.
What we are doing
Firebird Foundation is supporting systems change work in the family courts building relationships between partners locally, centering women and children with lived experience, and organisations specialising in domestic abuse. We are also focused on prevention - the only way to end violence against women and girls is to stop it in the first place. This includes work on FGM in the Global South.
